SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center Celebrates Third Anniversary

The SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center, developed in collaboration with UW Health and its nationally recognized University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, is pleased to announce the celebration of its third anniversary.

Throughout the week of October 11, the center will celebrate its anniversary with a variety of festive internal activities and celebrations for staff and patients. Examples include a staff painting party, anniversary pot luck and patient fleece scarf donations. Staff members are encouraged to donate fleece or cash donations throughout the week. In November, staff will gather together and create fleece scarves that will be handed out to cancer patients during the holidays.

Additionally, the Regional Cancer Center is continuing to provide greater and more convenient local access to medical specialties, research and physicians from the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. More than 30 doctors from UW Health are on SwedishAmerican’s medical staff, representing more than 15 different specialties. Specifically, Breast Surgical Oncologists Drs. Lee Wilke and Jennifer Steiman are at the Regional Cancer Center every week consulting with patients.

“We are extremely excited to celebrate our third anniversary at our new center,” says SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center Director Diane Scoville. “The Regional Cancer Center is more than just a beautiful building, it’s a place where patients and families feel welcomed during their cancer journey, a place that provides a soothing environment both inside and out and a place where patients receive advanced treatments by the region’s top specialists.”

So far in fiscal year 2016, the Regional Cancer Center has diagnosed 670 new oncology patients, 552 hematology patients and has recorded approximately 23,500 patient visits. It also has administered more than 12,000 units of chemotherapy, 29,500 radiation oncology treatments, and 1,503 PET and CT scans.
